What an auspicious date! Daniel was born in 1986, but Captain Cook made his first landing in Qld at the headland of 1770, on that date in the year 1770! This was his 2nd landing in Australia. He must have thought it looked a pretty good spot from aboard the Endeavour, and indeed it is a fabulous spot from the land.

We camped at the campground adjacent to the beach, in an idyllic spot to enjoy the ever changing views of the beach as the tides went in and out around the sandbars, and the sun set over the water. it took a while to orientate ourselves, and I think Jed is still convinced that the sun was setting in the North!?? The weather was perfect, the scenery was great and we spent three days walking, riding bikes, paddling (the signs warning about the dangers of stone fish, were a bit of an off put for swimming!) talking to other campers and drinking wine/beer while the sunset over the beach.

Life couldn't get much better than this! ( I think there may have been a smidge of school work done in there somewhere!?)
1770 was the type of place that Gladstone and Bundaberg locals have been coming everyyear for 25 plus years for their annual 3 weeks fishing holiday! However, it appears to be getting a bit of a name and development is taking off.
A secluded beach we found on the eastern side of the headland - can just see the kids on the sand |
Fun on the beach!
Anyway, we have more of the country to see... so we had to leave!
