5 Stops in 5 Days!

Phew! we've arrived in Airlie Beach - and we need a rest for a few days!
After leaving Rockhampton, we spent single nights at the following:

  • Carmila Beach - beautiful bush camping, in amongst the sheoaks and mangroves, right on the beach

    Carmila Beach
    Sandbanks and caught water
Burning the last of our firewood 'gift'

Sunset - beautiful colours in the East too

Sunrise - somebody was up early!
Morning light, reflecting on the mud beach, left after the tide has gone out.
  • Platypus Bush Campground - 'experiential' bush camping amongst the rainforest

Entrance to the "Office" and the camp kitchen
Contemplating the emergence of a platypus
into the creek at the rear of the campsite. (we
saw one here early the next morning!)

The shower block! Complete with woodfire heated
    water...
...and 'airconditioning'. Not to mention a great view of the rainforest! (was one of the most enjoyable and memorable showers of the trip so far!)
Water hole at the bush camp - a shame it wasn't about 10
degrees warmer, or we would have all been in. It was a
delightful spot! The day was low 20's and the night was clear
    and freezing!
  • Finch Hatton Showgrounds - nice and easy, with a beautiful outlook (and cheap! No one came around to pick up our fee!)

  • Mackay - another regional Queensland city, that we didn't spend a lot of time investigating.
and now at Airlie Beach!
