Crossing another Border

On the last day in July we were ready to cross another border and into the next state - WA!!

On leaving the Big Horse Creek Campground we had to think about the rules and regulations for crossing the border into Western Australia. They have very strict rules about what can be taken into WA from other states. The emphasis is on no fruit and vegetables to maintain their disease free status, particulalry in the area around the Ord River/ Kununurra Area. We had a big cooked breakfast with eggs and vegies (just like Daniel & Jake like it!!)and prepared a large salad lunch to take with us and eat prior to the Border. ... and we still had to give some to the neighbours - they were heading East, not West. This bought us an unexpected reward, as he delivered back to us a couple of yummy fillets of barramundi that they had caught in the river the day before. These made a yummy dinner that night!

We also had to declare an "as new" squeezy bottle of Capilano honey - what a pain! Jon cynically suggested that the officers on duty probably had nice honey on toast for the rest of the week. it did seem a bit ridiculous, as in my next shop, in Kununurra, I purchased the exact same thing again!! (it had to come over the border too, surely!)

The other noteworthy thing about this Border crossing was the time difference - suddenly we gained an extra hour and a half for the day! This really mucked up the body clocks for a while, and we were in bed very early that night. As were most of the other campers! It also proved to make school lessons difficult, as suddenly a 9.00am lesson in SA, became a 7.30pm lesson!!
