What a fantastic place, that even a lot of Queenslander's didn't seem to know about.

So many stations in the north of our country have been, and may still be, hiding some truly spectacular 'gems' that have only become well known and popular in recent history. The 4WD tourism industry has certainly paved the way for a lot more people to access some of these remarkable, scenic places. Although we only had one "river crossing" and the road in was fine, with plenty of caravans successfully making the trip to Lawn Hill.
Looking down on the gorge from the cliff |
The view from the lookout over the natural levy bank in the river was incredible!
We spent a day in the park, walking a couple of the trails and then hiring canoes to paddle the gorge. After the spectacular first section we arrived at natural levy bank, with a beautiful area for swimming under the waterfalls. The we dragged the canoes around the well-worn path and into the river again for the second stage of the gorge. This included an area of "smallish" rapids and on to a "beach" and swimming hole at the end.

Rock formations along the way |
Short waterfalls in the levy bank, between first and second sections of the gorge |
Here we had lunch, a swim and then climbed back into the canoes for the easier trip back down river, with the current.
It always makes me laugh, how the kids have to wear the lifejackets. Who's the better swimmer...me or Jed!!?? |
The reward at the end of the canoeing expedition! |
Lily & Jed handling the rapids well |
