Spring has definitely 'sprung' in WA. The wildflowers are out and the wheat crops are starting to look golden.
Kalbarri memories: beautiful coastal scenery, incredible gorges and scenery along the Murchison River (Kalbarri National Park), wildflowers, great times with friends (SA Great), first rain we've experienced in 3 months and hearing first hand a testimony of christian faith, of a French man who at the time, over 42 years ago was working 3000 metres underground in a French coal mine. He has lived in Australia now for 42 years, but at the time was looking for the meaning of life, questioning everything and he and a Christian colleague used to eat lunch together, in a pretty desolate, unforgiving environment. The "drip-feed" by his friend resulted in Paul becoming a Christian. He has a very powerful story... and I loved the french accent!
Lily and Tyler welcoming us to their "home" |
Tyler and Lily giving us the guided tour of the "cubby house" in the bush at the back of the caravan park. Featuring seats, bouganvillea carpet, wood screening, doorway ... (Emily and Laura - the co-architects, were elsewhere when this photo was taken). |
Natural Bridge - Kalbarri NP Coastline |
How do these wildflowers grow in this coastal, rocky environment?? |
Mushroom Rock |
Whoa! Where did that water come from?? A big 'splash' and the mother is freaking out! |
Jake's Point - The boats enter to Kalbarri and a boat ramp, on the RHS of these rocks, in all the swell and a narrow opening. |

Z-bend |
Wildflowers everywhere - banksia, grevillea,...some kind of native ...orchid??? (I needed 'Grannie' there to fill me in!)
Our second to last night in Kalbarri we joined our SA friends, at the 'Kalbarri Pub', to watch West Coast beat Carlton in an AFL semifinal. The Carlton supporters (one Victorian family!!!) were not happy! It was a very festive WA atmosphere. A few of us enjoyed a long talked about, and anticipated "Chicken Parmy"!! As often happens, I think the anticipation factor was the best bit!
