Tuna Feeding at Port Lincoln

On Sunday, we made the short journey back to Pt Lincoln to participate in a relatively new tourism enterprise - feeding/swimming with tuna in a "farm" in Boston Bay (consequently, they are offering reasonable prices!). We hopped on a 40 person cruiser at the Marina and had a 15 minute boat ride out into the bay, where they have set up a tuna netted area complete with areas for tuna (up to 90kg each!), and tank for other fish, including a couple of 'safe' sharks, an underwater viewing tunnel, a touch pool of sea creatures, the inevitable cafe bar and ... a couple of palm trees!! (plastic, blow-up variety!). We "upgraded" Jed to having a swim with the tuna. Amazing!! the guy in charge of feeding would throw some pilchards in front of a "likely swimming suspect" and they would consequently, get a great, close up view of a few huge tuna trying to get their taste! Jed didn't quite get "black & blue", but got buffetted by a few fish! He loved it! The rest of us were content to dangle pilchards, 'teabag' style, for the tuna to jump up and snaffle. All round it was a great activity.
Then it was home for a restful, lazy day at Coffin Bay, readying ourselves to pack up and leave for Moonta Bay early on Tuesday morning.

  2. Sounds brilliant. We had an AFS girl from Switzerland last year who is now working on a tuna boat in Port Lincoln! She is loving it =)
    Safe travels folks.
