Having run out of time on the Sunday, we ventured back into Sydney on the Wednesday, after we had spent a couple of days attending to school work, washing, mail etc. to see the 'main' sights - Opera House and Harbour Bridge!
We thought we were 'old hands' at the train now and arrived at the Holsworthy Station with plenty of time to spare - 15 mins, to catch the 11.10am train into the city!! And we drove round and round, up ramp and down and apart from parking illegally there wasn't a single park available in the whole place. (Meanwhile we waved to the 11.10am train as it pulled in and out without us on it!) We decide to 'phone a friend', and see if Kristy, (who had a 'really bad sick ....something....??? that day, and was supposedly home), would be able to drop us off if we drove back to their place. Of course,... she had just gone shopping, but happy to turn around, come back and pick us up and drop us off at the station. (Nieces are 'grand' aren't they!!). Meanwhile we menntally waved to the 11.40am train, as it would have 'whooshed' though the Holsworthy Station. Anyway, Kristy kindly dropped us off, and we caught the 12.10am train into Circular Quay (and we didn't have to do the 'train-bus- train thing, -no track work was happening during the week!). So much for being "old hands at the train system". And 'yay' for life in Keith where you can leave home at 2 minutes to 8, and be right on time for an 8 o'clock meeting!!
We marvelled at the size and architecture of the Opera House and and leant on the rail in the same spot as millions of others have done in days gone by to take photos.
I learnt something tho' - having always thought the roof was 'white' sheets of 'stuff - a) it is lots and lots of tiles, and b) they are a creamy colour!!
Food for thought - which is the 'front' of the Opera House? |
The Sydney Harbour Bridge - an iconic landmark and amazing piece of 1930's engineering! |
We decided not to 'climb' - we'll do that one day, when we don't have to fork out for kids as well! But we did walk around the base of LHS tower, and underneath it! (Not quite the same, i know but...)
Then of course we have the AMAZING trick photography, that the kids love!
Boy! Isn't she strong?! |
What a 'little' Opera House! |
And I couldn't resist including this photo! If ever you have doubted that Jon and Jed are alike, just have a look at this photo! They could have looked a bit happier, having alovely time on the opera House Steps, and posing for "another" photo for the crazy woman with the camera!
Anyway, that's Sydney for us. There is so much more to see,but Jon and I will save the rest for next time we happen to come this way. A good introduction!
