It was a beautiful day for racing - not the usual rainy day they have for the main event at the Mount Panorama racing circuit!
We were pretty quick off the start line, settled into the race as we headed up "Mountain Straight". However, we weren't quite quick enough to head off the 'hot' blue machine, that had started on poll position.
As we headed into the first corner of the track, the navigator had to radio in instructions - "forget the views, and keep your eyes on the road!" (but they were great views, of a pretty spot)!
At the top of the track our bodies were shunted from side to side, as we made our way through the "Esses", and the driver excellently anticipated the sharp corner after the "drop off".
Some very skilled driving and the appropriate acceleration saw Forrest take Forrest Corner with a minimum of fuss, and only a little 'outswinging' of the van on the back!
Conrod Straight was the last challenge, before heading for the chequered flags, and although a valiant effort was made, we weren't quite victorious and missed a podium placement.
The race officials weren't at all cooperative, and they wouldn't let us go 'round for another lap, just to see if we could better our result. (ie, Jon wanted to get to our next camp spot before the sun went down!!)
What a blast! for a younger sister of two older brothers,a wife of one who likes car racing and a mother of three sons - the features of the Mount Panorama race have been present in my life for years. So it was nice to be able to see it first hand!!
It was particularly intriguing to realise the race circuit was actually on the streets that are used by everyday locals going about their everyday lives, and there is many more than just the one big race a year!! You would want to have a 'handle' on the racing calendar if you had a particular family event in the planning to be held at your place, or you might find a very limiting "clash" of traffic outside your gateway!!
