Campsite at Woody Head - note the blue sky!
Woody Head campsite was buzzing, due to school holidays for NSW and QLD. But we were lucky enough to “squeeze” in. Again, we arrived with a few “drips”, but the following days were sunny and warm. This was obviously a fishing ‘mecca’ for some, but we weren’t so lucky!
View up to the grassy headland, and towards rock pools and across Shark Bay
And as we attempted to get a bit of school work done the next morning before going
swimming we heard familiar voices!??
And who should pull up next to us, but
the Shaw family!! Mark, Joanne, Emma, Luke & Ben.
Fishing trawlers were out every morning, in the bay and close to shore.
We were very excited to be able to share some more time with them – Joanne and Cate made a time to walk along the beach every morning, the girls played, giggled, and generally did ‘girly’ stuff and the boys did a bit of bike-riding and compared ‘camping notes’, and we spent beach time and more eating food together. It was nice, after 3 relatively ‘solitary’ months to feel a part of a social ‘group’ for a time.
Woody Head was great with it’s fire places, rock pools, beaches, grassy sites, sunshine and sunsets. Lily was a bit apprehensive about the rockpools after attending a "discovery talk" with a Ranger who pointed out some cone fish in the pools!! Nasty little critters evidently, and the moral of the story is "ignorance is bliss", or the other one, "forewarned is for-armed" and be careful where you put your feet or wear your thongs! Prior to that we had found the rock pools really interesting - finding an "eely" type thing slithering through tunnels inbetween pools and a huge sea snail, with it's base/muscle about the size of a hot water bottle! Massive!!
Again, we headed off a day before the Shaws and said fond farewells, making arrangements to see them in Perth after they get home… if not before!
