We arrived in Coff’s Harbour on a bit of a damp day, but managed to get the camper up and organised without getting too wet (we’re just about getting “cricks” in our necks, looking up to the sky to check out the weather and which way the next shower might be coming from!) .
The next 24 hours in Coff’s Harbour was wet! And this eastern rain seems a bit different to our southern type, as it just seems to suddenly ‘drop’ out of the sky, and before you know it you’ve had another inch of rain!! This can make for very wet camp sites sometimes and quite a few of these ones had big, muddy “ruts” in the grass, where vehicles had done a bit of wheel spinning! Not ours tho'!!
After that inch of rain tho’, the weather was beautiful and we had a few sunny days.

Coff’s Harbour was memorable for the following things (in no particular order):
•Being a pretty, well laid out town, with lots of trees
•Big Banana – is being renovated, but the inflatable water slides were good, and so was the “Candy” Shop, where we watched the intricate process of making flavoured lollies with pictures of different fruit along the entire cross section of the lolly – 10kgs of it, at one time. Fascinating!
A 10 kg 'cylinder' of 'lolly', that has been built up, layer by layer to create a picture that runs through the entire length of the candy. This will stay in proportion as the candy is stretched to be about 1.5 cm thick, and cut into pieces.

•The Harbour Christian Church was a great experience – excellent music, good teaching, nice coffee afterwards and met a family who had embarked on a trip around Australia, only to have to abandon it about 3 or 4 months in, due to unforeseen circumstances. They lovingly invited us to their home for a meal, but unfortunately, we had a prior engagement and couldn’t go.
•Fish and chips on the Sawtell Headland. And the beach was amazing, with a bit of a ‘spit’ in the middle and rockpools and sand pools, in which the water was nicely warmed in the sun. The only problem was – we hadn’t brought our bathers!! (and it was a bit far to go back and get them). We’ll put it on the ‘next time’ list!

•Walking along the pier/breakwater to Green Island – great Harbour and coastal views
•Heading up north to Woolgoolga, for the annual “Curry Fest”. One quarter of their population is Indian. I think this originated from the time that Indian labourers were involved in the sugar industry. Boy! The town was abuzz, with cars and people everywhere, and it was standing room only inside the gate. It was great to have some ‘ridgey-didge’ Indian food for lunch and be entertained by the Indian dancers and musicians.

•Jed’s bike was stolen! This occurred late morning, in the caravan park, while we were at church!! Of course, they could have taken mine, and I would have been glad… but I guess they know what looks good!! We looked all around the park, sussed out a couple of neighbourhood streets and reported it to Caravan Park and Police. However, we are not surprised that we have heard nothing!
•We met the Shaw Family from Perth, who are also doing the ‘round Australia trip’. They left home in September last year for 12 months on the road. Mark & Joanne are travelling with Emma, Lily’s age, Luke and Ben, who are both a bit younger. It was great to have someone in similar circumstances with whom we could compare notes. It was lovely to share a bbq and few drinks with them on our last night in Coff’s Harbour. And with fond hugs all round, we left them to it and headed up the coast to Woody Head.
