Mount Gambier for Australia Day

We made the 'long' journey from Adelaide to Mount Gambier (long by our current standards!) yesterday, driving the coast road, past the Coorong which is looking magnificently full. There has even been water over the road in one point between Policeman's Point and Salt Creek!
We left Adelaide in the heat of summer and pulled into Mt Gambier, with the cloud thickening and the rain started while we were putting up the caravan! And most of us had to run for jackets/jumpers. We're not used to the cool southerly climate of the Mount.

YUM

The other thing we were in time for, was to participate in Daniel's Christmas present from Nicole - a Thai Banquet! Boy, did we time that perfectly. Daniel had decided it would be a good idea, if it was being prepared, it may as well be shared, to save waste. And we were the lucky recipients! Nicole had evidently spent the afternoon 'slaving' in the kitchen and we sat up to a delicous banquet of prawn skewers, beef strips, crab 'cups', chicken, a couple of yummy salads and then fresh fruit with a pistachio dip. YUM!! it was doubly nice to be able to share the meal with our entire family, as Jake had made thet trip to the Mount with us too.

After we  have attended to a few 'business' type things - servicing the vehicle, having a hair cut, sorting out a Telstra issue etc... we will leave Mt Gambier for the resumption of our Trip, heading east along the southern Victorian coast and Great Ocean Road.

  1. Yum! When's the next one Nicole?!! :)

Travel Trip: don't wait to sort out an issue with Telstra before you keep travelling... you'll NEVER get to move on!

  2. Hi Forrest Family - It was great to see the travellers the other night - thanks for coming back to Adelaide to see us. Oh, it was good you could catch Jake after his trip too. Lily, we forgot to sing "Happy Birthday" to you - that means we have to sing it twice next time we see you! Enjoy the rest of your time in the Mount with Dan'l, Nicole and the girls and before you know it, you will have left the State!!!!

  4. It was lovely to catch you guys, the other night - for a howland style 'late night tryst'. it just wouldn't have been the same any other time! Was a bonus to catch up with De and Joel. We are having a nice time in the Mount with the junior Forrests - especially the two that 'rule the roost'! it's fun tho'. And we will leave them in peace tomorrow lunchtime, when we are heading to Portland to spend a night with Ted and Sue. Looking forward to that too. (And you can breath a sigh of relief tomorrow night - we will be out of the state!)
